The Story So Far: Alicia Keys

A new BET special traces the first 10 years of Alicia Keys' amazing career.

From the rough New York girl who took fans' breath away all around the world when she belted out the words "I keep on fallin'..." to the the gorgeous woman, mother, wife and philantropist that she is today, Alicia Keys' amazing journey is retold in The Story So Far, a new BET special that premieres this week.

In the new special, Alicia revisits some of her most memorable moments as we approach the 10-year anniversary of her classic debut album, Songs in A Minor. (A special deluxe edition of that album has just been released.) Keys reminisces on her 17-year-old self, who would rarely be seen wearing anything fancier than jeans, Timberlands and funky T-shirts. She recalls her excitement on the day she signed her record deal and moved out of the house, much to her mother's distress.

Do you remember the first time she performed "Fallin'" on BET's 106 & Park? What about her first BET Awards in 2002, when she wore a sequined Prince Purple Rain T-shirt and took home the trophy for Best New Artist?

As Alicia herself puts it: "Some of the most memorable moments of my career have been right here on BET."

We have to agree. Her performance at the 2008 BET Awards, when she sang "Teenage Love Affair" and brought out SWV, En Vogue, and TLC, will go down in history as one of the best throwback performances in BET Awards history.

Keys always looked to BET to give exclusives, premiere videos and test out new songs.

"We premiered 'Unthinkable' live on 106," says Keys with a laugh. "The first time I ever sang it was right there, and I couldn't wait to share it."

We watched this teenager with beaded braids and a piano grow into a multiplatinum selling entertainer. To find out what moments are the most memorable for Alicia Keys in the first 10 years of her career, tune into The Story So Far: Alicia Keys on Wednesday, June 29, at 7:30P/6:30C.
