Guys, Skinny Jeans and Silk Shirts #IssaLook

Rock star meets cool.

In case you you haven’t noticed, there is a new style trend that has been adopted currently by guys that we are starting to see more of, especially on the red carpet. In fact, it seems like these days, guys only know how to wear one thing:

And that thing is skinny pants and silk shirts. It would seem that more and more guys are more comfortable with the idea of either skinny jeans or leather pants and a silk shirt as the new uniform for the stylish man. The look gives off a vibe that says “I don’t take myself too seriously, but I am still a rock star low-key.” Amiright?

For the guys who are really into fashion, I know what you are thinking: "Wait, this trend is not new at all!” OK. #Facts. But consider the fact that, for men, something doesn't reach fever pitch until it is absolutely everywhere and, in this case, this look is undeniably popular right now.

Seeing guys become comfortable with this look as a fashion standard for going out is relatively new. Usually, we see the look on a tall model-type living in Cali *cough* Wiz Khalifa *cough* or you know, an actual model. It was more of their standard look.

Skinny jeans and leather pants were synonymous with people like Michael Jackson, Bon JoviLenny Kravitz and other rock stars.

Then stylish rappers began to rock tighter pants, rebelling against that baggy jean trend like Lil Wayne and Kanye West, who preferred an oversized tee versus a silk shirt.

Face it, once upon a time circa 2005 these "skinny pants" were seen as a female trend because it somehow contradicted the "masculine" dress code idea. It was the look for a woman to declare to the world that she was still fit and sexy at a certain age due to her ability to squeeze into a pair of skinny jeans and a silk blouse. We actually think this trend is still a thing for ladies as we scroll through countless Snapchat stories with them in the mirror praising their high butt and snatched waist.

The silk shirt was always seen as a rare shirt that guys wanted, but never really had the confidence to wear the delicate fabric. Remember the Versace silk shirt? It was a hot item because it was Versace, but most guys were afraid they couldn’t pull it off. Well, not Cam Newton and Russell Westbrook, of course!

But now everyone, and we mean everyone, is dressing like this. So how did this look trickle into men’s fashion and become the only look?

Well, luxury fashion houses like YSL and Balmain realized around 2013 and 2014 that the millennial male customer didn’t like to dress up. He wanted his look to be stylish but easy. Guys wanted something that exuded confidence and masculinity at the same time. These houses started reincorporating trendy silk shirts and variations of the skinny jean into their collections. Thus, we started seeing distressed skinny jeans, leather pants with zippers and tapered cigarette style, the rebirth of the “biker jeans” and cool silk shirts with different designs ranging from floral to skulls fused on a shirt with shiny buttons. And boom, just like that, a new look for men.

Stylists were being asked to dress some of the more fashionably progressive artists — aside from the Kanye WestsPharrell Williamses and Andre 3000s who were ahead of their times when it came to style — in the looks.

Once this look floated into mainstream culture, especially hip hop, mass retailers like Zara and ASOS incorporated similar looks from the luxe designers into their stores with more affordable prices. Keep in mind, jeans rip after leg day and silk shirts are ruined after a lit party. So affordable options were a plus for us guys!

Now, instead of ill-fitting suits and baggy jeans with large tees at events, we guys have landed at a happy, stylish medium with this look. And this look can be dressed up with a blazer, Chelsea boots and, of course, a plethora of expensive chains or dressed down after an event with some Chucks and an open, barely-on shirt.

Guys, girls love it regardless of what they say. It's got them looking for their skinny jeans and silk tops for the red carpet now. Just saying.

Here’s the thing, skinny pants and silk shirts #issalook for men. And. We. Love. It!
