Get To Know These 13 Black-Owned Breweries & Wineries
When it comes to alcohol, Black folks are glaringly absent from the business side of the discussion.
A 2024 report from the National Black Brewers Association showed that there were only 86 Black-owned beer brands in a landscape of 9,761 breweries nationwide. That's less than 1% of representation.
So what about wine? Well, while the numbers are a little different, the lopsided representation is virtually the same: more than 11,600 wineries are operating across the United States, and less than 1% are also Black-owned.
In a climate where support for Black-owned businesses and leaders has slipped, seeing Black leadership beyond the barstool is still incredibly rare.
From the rolling vineyards of Paso Robles, CA, to the bustling taprooms of the South Side of Chicago and Philly, these businesses are skillfully blending heritage with hops and pouring grace into every wine glass.
They’re not only crafting award-winning beverages, but also transforming an industry in the process. Whether through small-batch wines that honor ancestral stories or bold brews that unite us, each brand carries a shared spirit of resilience and pride.
Ahead, this list of 13 Black-owned breweries and wineries sits within a broader, still under-recognized ecosystem of more than 150 Black-owned wine ventures and dozens of beer brands nationwide.
Together, they invite us to reconsider not only what we're sipping, but who has historically been centered—or excluded—when we raise a glass.
This Black History Month, toast it up all year long with these Black-owned beer and wine brands.
