Claressa Shields Calls Out Laila Ali Over Possible Return to the Ring

Shields taunts Ali over comeback talk fueling speculation of a high-stakes bout between legends.

Laila Ali and Claressa Shields may be headed to the ring sooner than we think.

BET.com recently reported the undefeated boxing legend, who retired in 2007, shared she’d be open to coming out of retirement if the money is right.

“[U]nless somebody has $15-$20 million, don’t even call me about this,” Ali expressed in a recent video.

“Unless somebody calls me and says they have it, we’re not going to have a conversation. I’m not trying to come back and fight, but if someone offered that kind of money, I would actually have to think about it. Do I look like I could fight again? I think so too.”

Shields took this as a challenge, tweeting after the clip of Ali hit the internet.

“What a great weekend of boxing! Really motivated! Now @TheRealLailaAli I’m the GREATEST NOW!,” she tweeted.

“Be careful what you ask for ! You know I’ve been wanting to make you eat your words! You not a better boxer than me & at 175 I’ll put you on your back! BEEN READY FOR YOU!”

She then followed up on her tweet, using the red flag emoji after writing the amount Ali would be looking for to return.

This isn’t the first time Shields mentioned Ali or took a shot, as she claimed the veteran was “jealous” of her after watching Ali’s interview with Andre Ward.

“I’ve come to terms that she’s jealous,” Shields said in her video. “Now, I got the biopic, I got the fight coming up. She acts like I owe her something. It’s weird.”

“This is my era now, and she’s never supported me in my era,” Shields continued.

“She’s giving off hater energy. And bro, you’re not going to fight me. So why do you keep bringing me up?”
