BET Goes Pink : Get the Truth

BET Goes Pink explores a breast cancer myth that, despite being unfounded, continues to linger.

Recently, a prominent syndicated radio personality made the comment that “under wires in bras cause breast cancer.” It’s being spread that the underwire rubbing against your skin could cause cancerous cells to form. Sound believable? It shouldn’t. Let’s just get it out there. This is NOT true.

Comments like this would be comical if misinformation about breast cancer wasn’t so prominent and critical. We’ve all heard our moms, aunts, sisters and cousins tell us crazy things they’ve heard that cause breast cancer. And then once diagnosed — we clam up. The lack of open dialogue surrounding it all makes these crazy rumors and myths sound plausible. So it’s very important that you do your research to put an end to the gossip.

There is NO reason to fear underwire bras, ladies. What we should fear is misinformation on breast cancer in our community. For more information, please visit www.circleofpromise.org.
