D’Angelo and Angie Stone’s Son Michael Archer Jr. Speaks Out For The First Time Since Their Untimely Deaths
The late and legendary D’Angelo’s (and Angie Stone’s) son, Michael Archer Jr., has broken his silence on the deaths of his parents. In a post on Instagram, Michael, who also goes by the name, “Swayvo Twain,” captioned the post, “thanks for all the love, support, and well wishes… the first time i said anything about it ever since…”
In the first clip, he said, “Knowing about your father, knowing your father’s history, where he comes from, really getting an understanding for that sh*t is like monumental.”
The clip then goes into a clip from D’Angelo’s funeral, where Michael is speaking about his father, who passed on October 14 of this year.
He shared, “My dad came down to Atlanta. He came and spent three weeks with me. Anything we ever missed, any questions I ever had, anything I wanted to ask him about, anything, we just had every conversation, every laugh, every moment, man, it really just cleared my spirit.”
Michael also acknowledged the death of his mother, Angie Stone, after a car accident this March. In the post he mentioned the loss of his mother and how he went into hiding. “I’m not hiding this time,” he said.
“My mom passed and left me with a lot of questions. After this funeral, I gained a lot of answers to things,” Michael said of his father’s funeral. He goes on to say he feels motivated, which is hopeful at such a difficult time in the 27-year-old’s life.
In the post, Michael also shared clips where he’s hanging out with his family and in high spirits and joking around. In one of the clips, Michael shared his admiration for his dad, and said, “Every time he popped his head out, he did his big one. So, that’s what I’mma do. I’mma do my big one. And I got it too! I know I got the goods. I got what they’re asking for.”
There are also images of him greeting some of his dad’s famous friends like Dave Chappelle and Common, gorgeous photos of D’Angelo, photos with his siblings, Imani Archer and Morocco Archer embracing, and candid moments of Michael speaking at the funeral and sharing memories of his dad. One of the clips even features a track “When Doves Soar,” by Michael, dedicated to his parents.
“All the bells and whistles that come with pops, he just a regular dude. He’s like the most regularest dude ever,” Michael said speaking at D’Angelo’s homegoing service. He also said he and his dad would nerd out together over sports.
He even shared what he called “a real family portrait,” which featured himself as a tot on his mother’s lap with D’Angelo, his two brothers and Michael’s grandmother Marian.
He also related to his reclusive father, asking why “everybody’s looking at me or why are certain situations centered upon me? Why am I in the middle of this sh*t? I’m just here,” he shared. “I don’t know. It seems like he was going through that same sh*t too.” Michael said, referring to his father.
“I gained a whole understanding of my father that I never had,” Michael shared in the last slide.
The post is a really intimate look into Michael’s relationship with both of his late parents and it’s extra special coming from their only son, who typically avoids the spotlight. “I feel fully licensed to be myself, to be Michael, to be Swayvo Twain, the artist, the rapper, the brother, the man, unapologetically."
