Janet Hubert Confirms She and Will Smith Are in a Better Place

Hubert talks about the healing process, working together professionally, and the positive turn in her relationship with Smith today.

We all know about the feud between Janet Hubert and Will Smith that started back on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. Hubert played Aunt Vivian during the first three seasons of the hit show, but was replaced in 1993 by Daphne Maxwell Reid after reported tension with Smith. Over three decades later, Hubert says the two are in a better place.

Hubert, who currently stars in the Tubi series “Damascus”, spoke about her relationship with Smith during a recent appearance on “The Big Tigger Show”. Around the 12-minute mark of the interview, she joked about returning to the “scene of the crime,” referring to a V103 interview from 35 years ago. She called the experience “very cathartic” and “very healing,” adding, “We've come full circle, everybody.” When asked how things stand with Smith today, Hubert said simply, “It's so good.”

She also credited Smith for helping her professionally. Hubert shared that he and his team worked on launching her website and helped distribute her pictures to streaming platforms. She joked about rumors that he gave her millions, saying, “No, he didn’t give me millions of dollars.” Beyond professional support, Hubert noted Smith’s participation in her foundation, Embrace Girls, where he spent three hours mentoring children and providing them with essentials.

Their reconciliation has been acknowledged publicly. Last year, Smith appeared on ‘Black Comedy in America’ and admitted he had underestimated Hubert’s importance to ‘The Fresh Prince’. “I horribly underestimated what she was for me at that point in my life,” he said, reflecting on the early tension between them.

Meanwhile, the hit “Bel-Air” spin-off is preparing to return for its 4th and final season on Peacock, premiering November 24. The show continues to offer a modern take on the classic story while Hubert and Smith’s relationship shows that time can change perspectives and repair old conflicts.
