Social Media Reacts to Keke Palmer’s New KeyTV Series ‘Southern Fried Rice’
Keke Palmer continues to create original content on her KeyTV network and just dropped the trailer for a new series on the platform, “Southern Fried Rice.”
The series drops today (October 22) and features “Love Island” star Kordell Beckham, Choyce Brown, who is Tabitha Brown’s daughter, Ashley India, Jada Lewis, Page Yang, and Shaun Rose.
According to the synopsis, the series centers on KoKo Johnson, a Korean-American girl raised by her Southern Black parents, who sets out to find her place in the world. When she enrolls at Wright University, a prestigious, fictional HBCU in Atlanta and her late father’s alma mater, she’s immediately immersed in a culture that both embraces and tests her. As KoKo navigates questions of belonging, friendship, love, and identity, she’s forced to confront how others see her and, more importantly, how she sees herself.
“Southern Fried Rice is exactly the kind of story I envisioned KeyTV telling, one that reflects our diverse realities while still being full of humor, love, and heart,” Palmer said in a statement.
“This series represents the next wave of creative voices that are shaping culture, and I’m so proud KeyTV gets to be part of that.”
While Palmer seemed to be in good spirits about the show, social media has a different opinion, with many users confused as to why the “Nope” star would greenlight a series like this.
