Odell Beckham Jr. Got Choked Out By Marlon Humphrey And Lost His Earring
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Baltimore Ravens 40-25 on Sunday (September 29th), and Odell Beckham Jr. got choked out by Ravens’ DB Marlon Humphrey.
The Ravens made a concerted effort to shut down OBJ on Sunday, and they were successful. He was targeted seven times and held to two catches for 20 yards. But the stats aren’t what players and coaches were talking about postgame.
Humphrey was assigned to cover OBJ all game and the two players got into it all game long. A lot of pushing and shoving off the line of scrimmage, and the aggression continued after just about every play.
With 3 minutes, 35 seconds left in the third quarter, OBJ threw a punch at Humphrey during a play. Humphrey retaliated with a wrestling takedown and choking OBJ with both hands.
Football is a violent game and there is a lot of testosterone swirling around the field. It was a hot day in Baltimore as well. All ingredients to ignite an explosion.
In his post game comments to ESPN about the incident, Humphrey said:
"It's not really the brand of football I want to represent. The whistle blowed. It has to be over with."
Humphrey also said he followed OBJ into the tunnel after the game and apologized, but it was not reciprocated.
Marlon Humphrey on the incident.
To his credit OBJ is downplaying the entire incident and is moving on, saying:
"It's hot out there. We're just competing. I'm just upset that I lost my earring."
Neither player was ejected from the game and neither expect any discipline from the league.
