‘My 600-Lb. Life’ Star Latonya Pottain Dead at 40
Latonya Pottain, who notably appeared on season 11 of “My 600-Lb. Life,” has died. She was 40 years old.
According to TMZ, which initially reported the news, Pottain passed away on May 17 at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Pottain’s brother told the outlet that she had been hospitalized after experiencing breathing difficulties and later went into cardiac arrest.
The Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed her cause of death as congestive heart failure following a preliminary autopsy, although a full autopsy report is still pending.
Earlier this year, Pottain opened up about her health challenges in a GoFundMe campaign, describing her situation as “the most challenging time of my life.”

“I currently weigh about 705 pounds and have been bedridden since June 2024 due to severe health issues,” she wrote in February.
“In 2022, I was featured on ‘My 600-lb Life,’ where I started at 531 pounds and worked hard to get down to 505 pounds. However, after the show aired, I experienced overwhelming backlash, which sent me into a deep depression.”
Pottain explained that the toll on her mental health left her fearful of pursuing weight loss surgery. Her physical condition worsened, and she ultimately developed severe sciatica that left her in constant pain.
“Now, I am completely bedridden and unable to get to the hospital because EMTs say transporting me would be a fire hazard due to my weight,” she added. “This has been an incredibly difficult journey, and I truly want to fight for my health and my life.”
Pottain’s weight loss journey was documented on “My 600-Lb. Life,” where she struggled to meet the requirements of a strict program led by bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.
During her time on the show, Dr. Now expressed concern about her heart and repeatedly warned her that failing to make lifestyle changes could be fatal.
