Family Welcomes First Baby Girl in 108 Years After Generations of Sons
After 108 years of welcoming only sons, one family has finally been blessed with a baby girl.
Sunday (September 7th), brought a heartwarming surprise for Michael and Joacquia Sherman, who, surrounded by family and friends, found out they’re expecting a baby girl, Eyewitness News reports.
“I just feel honored,” Michael told the news outlet.
“We are the ones bringing the baby girl into the world. Finally, after over 100 years. It's amazing.”
Michael’s grandmother, Lydia Robertson, shared that she “loves” the new addition to the family tree, and “no matter what path she chooses,” the family will stick beside her.
“She's going to always have support here,” she expressed.
“I pray she makes the right decisions in life and takes the right path.”
She also highlighted Michael’s great-great grandmother, Orah Belle Sherman, who was the last girl to be born in his family. She was birthed in 1917.
“She was a trailblazer in Atlanta,” she said.
“She dealt with the civil rights during the civil rights time. She met a lot of civil rights leaders, and she made an impact in Atlanta.”
His grandfather, Michael Sherman Sr., shared it’s a “monumental” moment for the family.
“I have three boys, my dad had two boys, and his brother had two boys so it’s been nothing but boys, boys, boy,” he shared.
The Houston family revealed the baby is due in March and will check to see if they are eligible to enter the Guinness World Record for this historic moment.
