In a recent interview, Basketball Wives LA cast member Angel Brinks opened up about getting her first big opportunity thanks to another breakout star who took action after watching the then-fledgling designer be bullied on the reality series.
On Tuesday (June 28), Brinks, exclusively, told Page Six that Cardi B reached out to her after seeing her on Basketball Wives. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper commissioned the designer to style her for the 2017 MTV Music Awards.
“I had so much fun with her,” Brinks told Page Six. “She knew at the time what happened with me on the show being bullied and attacked. She was telling me, ‘Girl, I hated watching that happening to you on TV. You deserve so much more respect.’”
Brinks, known for her blinged-out designs, wasn’t taken seriously as a designer or entrepreneur by her fellow castmates.
In 2019, the 39-year-old Bling queen recounted the moment she dressed Cardi for the award show on Instagram while shouting out a customer who recreated the look for her prom.
“As you may know, we made Cardi B’s romper & matching robe jacket, over 40,000 crystals, for her very first VMA performance! It was my pleasure to remake one for our beautiful client @zeze.jordannn prom! I hope you had a great time, and I think you look beautiful!! ❤️”
Since her big break, Brinks has gone on to outfit other industry heavy-hitters like Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Kim, Cassie, Ashanti and Mary J.Blige among other fashionistas.
“@lilkimthequeenbee performs at the Grits & Biscuits Block Party wearing our one-legged jumper design! We ❤️ her!!
Clearly booked and busy, the Armenian designer is fresh from the high of her annual fashion show on Saturday evening. Brinks also shared looks and moments from the event on Instagram.
“In full glam for my @angelbrinksfashions show Saturday night. It was truly a night to remember. In custom Angel Brinks of course ♥️
