BET Awards 2025: Leon Thomas Wins Best New Artist
Leon Thomas isn’t new to this and at the BET Awards 2025, he finally got the recognition he’s long deserved, taking home the Best New Artist award after years of putting in quiet, game-changing work behind the scenes. But now? He’s front and center, and MUTT made sure of it.
His debut album MUTT isn’t just a body of work—it’s a mood, a memory, and a masterclass in modern R&B storytelling. It’s messy, moody, vulnerable, and mature—exactly the kind of record that doesn’t try to be everything for everyone. Instead, it goes deep. It lingers. It heals. And it hit at just the right time.
From the very first track, “2:55,” you can tell Leon isn’t interested in surface-level vibes. He’s diving straight into the dark water—emotional honesty, complicated love, self-reflection. And it’s all wrapped in live instrumentation and warm analog textures that make it feel like you’re listening to something timeless, not trendy.
In his recent "Art of the Come Up," Thomas spoke about his ascent.
“For the last five years, it’s been really a process of just creeping out of the shadows,” he tells BET. “I was writing and producing for a lot of major artists, but right now I’m taking in the role of being in the spotlight—and it’s just a beautiful thing for me.”
The North American leg kicks off October 30 in Dallas, TX, with stops in Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Rising R&B standout Ambré will join as support across the U.S. and Canada. T on Monday, Thomas announced his "Mutts Don't Heal" World Tour.
