Salim and Mara Brock Akil Continue Their Partnership With BET
2011 has proven to be a whirlwind year for Salim and Mara Brock Akil. In January, The Game, on which the Akils serve as executive producers and director, returned to television on BET. The response was record-breaking, garnering 7.7 million viewers in its debut episode.
Earlier this month Jumping the Broom was released, which was directed by Salim Akil. The family comedy starred Laz Alonso, Paula Patton and the legendary Loretta Devine and Angela Bassett.
In addition, the Akils are tackling a remake of the legendary Sparkle, a film that has made its rounds in Hollywood for years and once had Aaliyah signed on.
Now, BET Networks has announced a multi-year agreement with Salim and Mara Brock Akil. The husband and wife team will develop new television shows with the same fire and originality of shows like The Game.
Hats off to the Akils for their consistent, groundbreaking success. These two are just what “Black Star Power” is all about.
