Eddie Murphy Explains Why Courtside NBA Seats Make Him Uneasy
Eddie Murphy just revealed his biggest fear, and it’s not what you might expect.
During an interview with Speedy Morman from Complex, “The Pickup” star shared that his greatest fear is becoming a viral meme from sitting courtside at a basketball game.
“My biggest fear is to be sitting there and one of them guys go dive for some ball and knocks me out and [it] turn into some meme and s**t.”
He continued, “I had one of these giant motherf**kers coming and going for a ball, and run you over, and sh*t. You be on TV and you be on the news and Shaq is stepping on your face. ‘Cause you don’t really realize how big these guys are ’til you sit on the floor and they run by. It’s like a f**king herd. Seven-foot dude and they be diving and sh*t.”
There have been countless instances where basketball players may have dived for a loose ball and have fallen into the crowd, from Lebron James, to Sydney Kings player Matthew Dellavedova, and many more.
Last year, during a game against the Boston Celtics during Game 5 of the NBA Finals, Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving was chasing a loose ball and dived into the crowd to catch it, ultimately falling into a member of the announce team.
And in an era where everything has the potential to go viral, it’s common for a celebrity to become a meme or for their work to be used as a voiceover, on and off the court, especially when they are not trying.
Case in point: Kendrick Lamar’s record, “tv off,” which features the rapper screaming “mustard!” on the track, which social media took and created a fun frenzy online with numerous fans creating viral videos using the scream.
