This year’s recipient of the “I Am Hip Hop” award at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards was none other than Nelly.
There’s no one more deserving of their flowers than the St. Louis native, whose influence, leadership and memories over his twenty-year career help shape a generation.
In a virtual one-on-one with the St. Louis rap icon, we picked the Apple Bottom Jeans founder’s brain about the types of music he listens to when he’s doing everyday activities in a game called “What Makes Nelly’s World Go Around”.
We ask, for example, what he’d play while stuck in L.A. traffic, to which he responded:
“To me, the greatest rap album of all time: The Chronic," he said.
Check out his interview below.
As usual, the BET Hip Hop Awards were filled with some memorable moments and performances. Let's take a look at a few below.
Tobe Nwigwe Performance
Undoubtely one of the most gripping performances of the night was Tobe Nwigwe bringing out Fat and Nel to body the performance of their song "Fye Fye".
Taking up the entire stage, the rap group brought energy you could feel though the screen.
Nick Cannon's Christmas Album
Nick Cannon stepped out dramaitc fashion for the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Drapped in premature holiday-ready garb, the "Masked Singer" sported metallic gold embossed vest with red and white-striped silk shorts. Not to mention his white fur coat, diamond pendant necklace, belt and red glasses lined in crystals.
