Mark Wahlberg Names His Favorite Rappers and Which Two Hip-Hop Albums He Has on His Phone

The "Transformers" star’s answers may surprise you.

Mark Wahlberg may be one of the world's biggest movie stars — indeed, his film Transformers: The Last Knight is getting ready to crush the summer box office — but the former leader of the Funky Bunch hasn't forgotten about his hip-hop past.
In our exclusive interview with the star, he names his favorite rappers of today and back in the day. Plus, the two rap albums that have a permanent spot on his iPhone.

Mark Wahlberg had a lot to say when it comes to his favorite rapper. "There are so many that I love from my era. Just watching old YouTube clips of Kool G Rap, who has been out there talking about stuff. Rakim, Tupac, Nas, Jay Z, the list just goes on and on." The actor said. "I only have two rap albums on my phone. I have Jay Z and Kanye, Watch the Throne and then I've got Tupac's greatest hits. But I have a love for so many other rappers, but most of the music I am listening to is like Adele because I'm not a great flyer."

When asked about a feature on an upcoming song, the actor joked, "Oh, I'm going to have talk to DJ Khaled about that."

Wahlberg also discussed the challenges that come with filming a blockbuster film like Transformers. "I try to play it real, I have to believe that, yes, there is a 50-foot robot there. He's either going to be my friend or try to kill me. We try to find that balance with pushing the envelope with the action, also with the humor, and make it edgy enough that parents aren't going to be like, 'Oh God, I gotta go see this movie with my kids.' We want everybody to enjoy it, and that's a fine like to walk on." He adds, "With this movie, you know, you're going to get beat up for five or six months, so you gotta be – you can't just look like you're in shape, you have to be in shape. You gotta be able to run for 12 hours a day."

Finally, the film's star expressed his desire to make the fans happy, saying, "Ultimately, I just hope we entertain everybody."
