Rapsody’s Message About The Grammy Nominations Deserves A Round Of Applause

“Today.....disappointed. Yes. Frustrated...beyond.”

With the 2020 Grammy nominations finally unveiled, some artists have expressed their concerns with the music industry.

  • The North Carolina MC Rapsody spoke out about the announcement amid her exclusion from the categories and amid her 16-play Eve album released earlier this year. Rapsody posted on her Instagram to share a more positive outlook on the situation, despite the controversy. Additionally, she thanked fans for lending their ears, words and support.

“I haven’t been nominated for much but what I have I’m thankful for. There’s so much power and weight in numbers, nominations and awards....we artist know what that does for our exposure; and for the many, validation,” she said in the post.

  • Charlamagne Tha God, PJ Morton, Busta Rhymes, DJ Spinderella and more also expressed their kind words in the comments following her post.

The one-hour-long soundscape shows how Rap is inspired by Black women who are generational trailblazers. She pays her respects by titling her tracks after them. Some of those iconic names include singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone, media executive and talk show host Oprah Winfrey and award-winning professional tennis player Serena Williams. Eve features the sounds of Leikeil47, K. Roosevelt, D’Angelo, GZA, Mereba, Elle Varner, SiR, JID, Queen Latifah, J.Cole and PJ Morton

  • Pitchfork scored the project an 8 out of 10, saying that Rapsody “unlocks her full skillset and brings her creativity and ingenuity” in Eve

In 2018, she was nominated for two 2017 Grammys for Best Rap Album, Laila’s Wisdom, and Best Song, “Sassy.” With an extensive discography dating back to 2010, the talented lyricist has rhymed and used her empowering words as she tells the story of the “struggle of Black womanhood,” says NPR

Despite the Grammy nods, BET sends a huge congrats to rap for an incredible year to throw in the books!
