Kandi Burruss Returns to the Broadway Stage in ‘& Juliet’

The Grammy-winning songwriter and ‘RHOA’ star takes on the role of Angélique through March 2026 while continuing her work as a Tony-nominated Broadway producer.

Kandi Burruss is coming home to Broadway!

The Grammy-winning songwriter and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star joins the Broadway company of “& Juliet” for a limited run beginning Dec. 11, playing Angélique through March 8, 2026. Burruss succeeds TikTok star Cheryl Porter and called the chance to return to the stage “a dream come true.”

“& Juliet” has been nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show flips the William Shakespeare classic and imagines what would happen if Juliet hadn’t ended it all over Romeo. The score includes famous pop songs written by Max Martin, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Confident.”

“As a songwriter myself, I am such a fan of Max Martin’s genius mind, and to get to come back to Broadway in this joyful musical that celebrates his catalog is a dream come true,” Burruss said in a statement.

Burruss isn’t new to The Great White Way. She made her Broadway acting debut as Matron “Mama” Morton in “Chicago” (2018) and has since emerged as a serious Broadway producer, with credits that include “Thoughts of a Colored Man,” “The Piano Lesson,” “The Wiz,” “Othello,” and the up and coming revival of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.” Burruss even received a Tony nomination for “The Piano Lesson.”

As a songwriter, Burruss has a storied catalog herself. She won writing credits on TLC’s “No Scrubs” and helped pen hits that have defined late-90s and early 2000s R&B, making her casting in a pop-driven jukebox musical feel especially fitting. She’s already taken “& Juliet” onto daytime TV, performing “Perfect” with Gianna Harris (Juliet) on “The View.”

For Burruss, “& Juliet” is both a return to performing and an aligned next chapter (acting roles, a heavy producing slate, and a career that bridges music, television, and theater). “I could not be more thrilled to return to the Broadway stage in this incredible musical,” she said.
