NLE Choppa’s Mom Gives Displaced Memphis Family a Home for the Holidays
Rapper NLE Choppa’s manager and mother, Angeleta Potts stepped in as Santa Claus for a family in need in Memphis. Action 5 News reported that firefighters responded to 2821 Los Gatos Court around 5:16 p.m. when a pizza box left on a stove ignited, and flames spread throughout the two-story duplex. The blaze caused $320,000 in building damage and $160,000 in content losses.
After seeing a local news segment about the Jefferson family, who lost their home in a devastating fire, Potts moved quickly and offered one of her rental properties rent-free for two months, complete with toys, shoes, and essentials already set up for the children of the family.
The Jeffersons had been staying in different locations, some in hotels, others with relatives, after losing their home.
“Wow, like, if that was to happen to me, I would pray that somebody would reach out and want to help me,” Potts said.
Local outlets reported that Potts acted after learning about the family’s struggle on social media and through broadcast coverage. She told FOX13 she wanted the kids to have a Christmas and to bring the family back together. “This will be a great blessing to bring them back together under the same roof for Christmas,” Potts said.
The Jefferson family was offered space and immediate necessities so they wouldn’t have to scramble for housing during the holiday week. Potts told reporters she initially planned to gather toys, but then realized a vacant home she controlled could do a lot more. The family will be able to stay rent-free until they get on their feet.
“Just to think about children not having anywhere to stay or don’t have any toys to open up on Christmas… that just wouldn’t sit well with me,” Potts explained.
Potts — often called “Momma Choppa” and a driving force behind the NLE Choppa Foundation — has a recent history of community work in Memphis, including toy drives and outreach programs that support local families. Momma Choppa’s act of kindness continues a pattern of direct, local giving tied to NLE’s public brand and family network.
For a city like Memphis, still bruised by economic gaps and seasonal pressure, Momma Potts’ gesture is a practical, hands-on response: immediate shelter, holiday gifts, and the time to regroup without stress. Potts’ intervention didn’t just replace lost things, she reunited a household for Christmas and gifted the Jefferson family room to breathe and rebuild.
