The Epic Noah Lyle vs Tyreek Hill Track Showdown has been Cancelled
Noah Lyles, the Olympic track star, was supposed to race Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins wide receiver, in a much anticipated match-up this weekend.
Lyle said the plan was to "shut down" Times Square in New York City for the "big event," complete with "all the billboards.”
"It was going to be a lot of fun," the athlete said, according to People Magazine. However, because of "personal reasons" and "complications" the race has been called off.
“We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,” Lyles said, in a video shared by the New York Post. The Olympian explained the cancellation during a panel at the Sport Beach event on Monday, June 16, in Cannes, France.
A public back-and-forth ensued last August, after Lyles became the first American since Justin Gatlin in 2004 to win Olympic gold in the 100 meters, the competitive athletes then agreed to race sometime in 2025, as per CBS Sports.
In February, after winning his fourth 60m final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Lyles held up a sign that read, "Tyreek could never" according to People Magazine.
Hill shared back in February that he's "got to do this for the guys that play my sport" and let everyone know that NFL athletes "did run track at some point, and we can come and take over your sport at any moment if we really wanted to."
At that time, Lyle who refers to himself as "the world's fastest" said, "Everybody says that they're gonna be the world's fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win."
Whether the much anticipated race will be rescheduled has yet to be confirmed.
