LeBron James Calls Out NBA Media For Negative Coverage

During his ‘Mind the Game’ podcast, James and Steve Nash claim that certain commentators are not interested in promoting the league.

LeBron James slammed certain members of the NBA media for their coverage of the league.

Appearing on his podcast Mind the Game, James expressed his frustration with how some commentators inject negative narratives into their commentary on NBA games and players.

“We all have a story,” James told co-host Steve Nash. “And there are a lot of stories that could be told on the OKC roster and on the Pacers roster. And it’s like, do the guys that preach our game, do they want to do the homework and take the time out to actually tell these stories. And it doesn’t seem way.”

“It’s just, ‘what can I say without truth or without knowledge’ or ‘this is what I want to say’ and there’s no accountability behind it. That now goes to our fans,” James continued. “We have to protect our players and protect our product, and also bring awareness. I think our game is also about storytelling. We have to tell the stories of our players, of how they got there, why they’re there, the journey it took for them to get there.”

The Los Angeles Lakers star forward spoke about watching the NBA Finals as a child and how he felt invested in the game because the broadcast team told the backstories of certain players.

James is not alone in his critique of the current NBA media landscape. Rich Paul, his longtime agent and business partner, recently targeted some NBA media personalities whom he claims make a living from being critical of “King James.”

Michael’s never been the underdog in any Finals. Not one time. Michael never had a 24/7 news cycle. He never had shows built strictly to criticize him. People made millions of dollars criticizing LeBron,” Paul argued. “That was their entire job…I’m the biggest Michael Jordan fan ever. Love Michael Jordan. I don’t think Michael Jordan would use the term ‘Cherry-picking’, so I’m not here to discredit Michael Jordan.”
