Chris Brown to Remain in Jail for a Month

Judge orders singer to stay in custody until April 23.

Chris Brown found no reprieve in a Los Angeles court today. Shortly after being ejected from rehab on Friday, March 14, the "Love More" singer was arrested for violating his probation. TMZ reports that he appeared in court today to learn his fate, and Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin ruled that Brown must remain in jail until April 23.

Brown was in the Malibu rehab at the behest of the judge, who had previously ruled that Brown must remain there until a D.C. court determines if he's guilty of misdemeanor simple assault for an altercation outside the W Hotel last October. If the jury finds against him, he would be in violation of his probation stemming from his 2009 assault of Rihanna. That could result in up to a four-year prison sentence. The D.C. trial is set to commence on April 17 and is expected to last about three days. Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, said that if remanding Brown to jail prevents him from attending the trial, he will likely file an appeal for his release.

Brown was reportedly kicked out of the rehab for violating three facility rules: no coming within two feet of any woman in the building (he was seen touching a woman's elbows and hands), not submitting to a random drug test after an unauthorized departure (which he eventually took and passed) and speaking negatively about the program during a group therapy session. He also, according to the judge, told the group that he was "good at using guns and knives."
