Mo’Nique’s Son Says He Was Wrong for Airing Family Issues Online
Mo’Nique’s son, Shalon Jackson, is apologizing for past public comments he made about his mother, doing so on the same platform he used to air their family drama a year ago.
In a four-minute TikTok video shared on Wednesday (May 28), Jackson issued a heartfelt apology to the Oscar-winning actress and her husband, Sidney Hicks, after posting a string of critical videos aimed at the couple.
“Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family, and I have to take full accountability for it,” Jackson said. “Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time when I made them is irrelevant. I made them and I shouldn't have, period.”
The 35-year-old added, “My family did not deserve the backlash that they received from what I said. My mother and Sidney were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn't like it. Taking accountability can be hard if I allow it to be. Bottom line, I was wrong and I shouldn't have said any of what I said. I should have just kept my mouth shut and called my mother.”
The emotional video also described a recent, healing family conversation initiated by his brothers. “I spiritually got jumped,” he joked, before adding, “But at the end of the ass-whooping, my family did pick me up and give me a hug.”
Reflecting on his children’s relationship with Mo’Nique, Jackson shared, “Now, watching her take pride in making my son's baby food from scratch, to baking chickpea chocolate chip cookies with my daughter... makes me so happy to have been so wrong before.”
The public apology comes a year after Jackson criticized Mo’Nique in the wake of her viral “Club Shay Shay” interview last year, accusing her of pushing a “false narrative” about their relationship. At the time, he said, “We are separate as she put it because she doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.”
Mo’Nique and Hicks quickly responded with their own video, denying several claims and outlining the support they’d provided, including baby supplies and help with a car. The actress later shared private text messages in an attempt to clear her name.
“I owe it to my family to make this apology public due to the fact that I made our family business public,” Jackson shared. “Though the road to family redemption is hard, I'm looking forward to it.”
