Hallelujer! Tyler Perry Hilariously Channels Beyoncé In Latest Madea Film

The media mogul shares a first look at ‘A Madea Homecoming’ ahead of its Netflix release.

Tyler Perry is giving everyone a first look at his beloved character Madea’s triumphant return from retirement in a brand new movie event. Perry will dust off his wig for A Madea Homecoming, the twelfth installment of his hit franchise. The film will premiere February 25 on Netflix.

In an Instagram post, Perry shared a poster for the film that features Madea channeling Beyoncé’s famous Homecoming look, with the tongue-in-cheek tagline, “Live from her backyard.”  David Mann, Tamela Mann, Brendan O’Carroll, Jennifer Gibney, Candace Maxwell, Gabrielle Dennis, Geneva Maccarone and Cassi Davis-Patton will also appear in the film.

"I was looking at the state of the world and how polarized it is… nobody's laughing," the multi-hyphenate media mogul told Entertainment Weekly, explaining why he decided to bring Madea out of retirement. "Nobody's getting the chance to belly-laugh anymore. And I'm like, 'What tool do I have in my arsenal that can bring that kind of laughter?'"

Perry also says his new Madea film revolves around an LGBTQ story line, which is something he hopes sends a message of inclusion.

"How long does it have to be before you understand something?" Perry said to EW. "Even if you don't understand, be open... I just think that if everything gets accepted in love, then you get a chance to see the person for who they are rather than what you think they are."

The new film continues Perry’s collaboration with the streaming giant after last year’s release of A Fall From Grace, which was seen by 39 million households in its first month. Perry also joined the ensemble cast of the critically-acclaimed film Don’t Look Up, also streaming on the platform.

Perry will direct and write A Madea Homecoming with Will Areu and Mark Swinton producing. Perry will also EP along with Michelle Sneed.

Perry previously said that Madea would be making her final appearance in the 2019 Lionsgate feature A Madea Family Funeral, which made $75 million at the global box office.

A Madea Homecoming will be shot entirely at Tyler Perry Studios and released on Netflix in 2022.
