Naomi Osaka Gets Candid About Her Motherhood Journey

“Something I had to conquer recently is fighting the thought that I won’t be a good mom,” wrote the athlete.

Naomi Osaka is opening up about her motherhood journey.

In a candid post she shared on X (Twitter), the tennis star looks back on her life and how becoming a mom has shifted her world view, as reported by PEOPLE. She titled her remarks “26” and included a side-by-side of the same message in Japanese.

“Randomly I wonder If I’m doing okay, is there a correct path to take in life or have I veered off onto the scenic route for a little bit,” she tweeted. “However, I’ve now come into the mindset that I can only keep moving forward and everything that will be, will be.

The four-time Grand Slam singles champion delved into how she’s battled thoughts of doubt since becoming a mom.

“Something I had to conquer recently is fighting the thought that I won’t be a good mom. So many doubts raced through my head I had to swat them away like mosquitoes,” Osaka wrote.

Osaka admits that her daughter has provided a new perspective on life.

“Looking into Shai’s eyes and holding her I always think, ‘wow this little person depends on me so much, I have to do better.’ It’s such a strange feeling watching your kid grow, you blink and they’re double the size in a few months.”

Osaka wrote that she’s thankful for this new journey, including the “little things (and the big ones).”

“I’m so grateful to have another year and I’m so thankful to everyone that believes in me, love you and thank you),” she wrote.

Over the summer, Osaka welcomed her first child, a daughter with rapper boyfriend Cordae. In January, she broke news that she was expecting by sharing a picture of her sonogram on Instagram.
