GRAMMYs 2022: Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave The Door Open’ Wins Song Of The Year

Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, and rapper D’Mile Accept the award.

After a stunning opening performance, R&B supergroup Silk Sonic danced their way onto the stage at the 64th annual Grammy Awards to accept the award for Song of the Year for their 2021 megahit “Leave The Door Open.”

The band, made up of singer Bruno Mars and rapper Anderson .Paak had already earned hardware earlier in the ceremony for Best R&B Song.

The song, Silk Sonic’s debut single from their album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, has been surrounded with critical and commercial success since its release in March 2021. It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified two times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America after reaching 2 million in certified unit sales.

Making their way on stage, they were joined by the song’s co-writer, rapper Dernst ‘D’Mile’ Emile II.

“I just want to say thank you to my team, my family, my beautiful wife out there,” D’Mile said in acceptance of the award. “This is for my mom who passed on Wednesday.” He paused for a second, finishing with, “this is for her.”

D’Mile’s mom, Haitian music artist Yanick Étienne, passed away on Wednesday (March 30), according to a tweet from THELAR Management Group, a Florida-based company that specializes in marketing Haitian artists.

“I want to thank everyone who helped us with this album,” Mars said after hugging D’Mile. “Andy, couldn’t be prouder to be doing this with you, man.”

Before exiting the stage, Bruno thanked the crowd, “because of you guys, we're gonna be singing this song forever.”
