Ryan Coogler Just Landed the Best Job Ever

It's official! Ryan Coogler, the mastermind filmmaker behind the likes of Creed and Fruitvale Station, is confirmed to direct Marvel Studios' Black Panther solo film starring Chadwick Boseman.

According to, the film's team of producers is stoked to have Coogler onboard, especially seeing his impressive work in past films. "We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family," producer Kevin Feige said. "The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we've found the perfect director to bring T'Challa's story to life."

Coogler is no stranger to bringing a big story to life on the silver screen. He both wrote and directed his first award-winning feature film, Fruitvale Station, in 2013, and directed the critically acclaimed Creed, which went on to earn Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe.

Die-hard comic heads would know that Black Panther has been an integral part of Marvel history for 50 years. He is the king of the technologically-advanced nation of Wakanda. Boseman will star in the solo film after making his Black Panther debut in Marvel's upcoming Captain America: Civil War on May 6.

Marvel's Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
