Patti LaBelle Tapped For ‘The Wonder Years’ Season Two

The reimagined ABC series is narrated by Don Cheadle.

Patti LaBelle will join the second season of ABC’s The Wonder Years!

The legendary music icon is said to guest-star to play Shirley Williams, the mother of Dulé Hill’s character, Bill Williams, in the reimagined series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, LaBelle is currently signed on for two episodes, with her character being the choir director at her church.

Season two of The Wonder Years will continue to follow the coming of age of Dean Williams (Elisha “EJ” Williams) in Montgomery, Alabama, in the late 1960s.

The series won a Peabody Award for its first season.

Narrated by Don Cheadle as the adult Dean, the show’s regular cast also includes Saycon Sengbloh, Laura Kariuki, Julian Lerner, Amari O’Neil and Milan Ray.

Showrunner Saladin K. Patterson also executive produces the show with Lee Daniels and Bob Daily.

The Wonder Years will make a mid-season return, but no official release date is set yet.
