Will Smith Once Confronted Jada Pinkett Smith’s Co-Star Over On-Screen Kiss

The 2022 Oscars isn’t the first time Smith has defended his wife. This time it was Tommy Davidson.

Will Smith’s 2022 Oscars slap allegedly wasn’t the first the actor checked someone over his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

According to Tommy Davidson, he and the Academy Award-winner had an alleged “run-in” due to a kissing scene between Davidson and Jada Pinkett Smith in the 1998 film “Woo.” The 59-year-old recalled the incident during his October 11th appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast

As the story goes, Davidson claims Smith “came into the trailer, and I was sitting down. He’s standing over me, and he’s like, ‘I don’t appreciate that, man. I don’t appreciate that.’ And I’m like, ‘What you talking about?’”

Davidson said, “I always know to play it off. I’m like, ‘What’s going on man? Tell me what’s happening.’ And since he was standing and I was sitting, I was a real nice fella. That’s about physics.”

The “In Living Color” actor was confused about what may have triggered Smith but noted that he still wanted to resolve the issue.

Davidson suggested resolving the issue privately outside, adding that  “This is a small place and people are here, we should talk about it, me and you, outside, ‘cause it looks like you need to get something off your chest,’”  although Pinkett Smith, who was also in the room, advise against it.

Years later, Davidson wanted to include the incident in his 2020 memoir, Living in Color: What’s Funny About Me, only to discover that he needed their approval to include someone else's story. “I found out about literature that you can’t put something in a book about somebody unless they sign off,” the actor explained. Davidson got consent and learned the true reason behind Smith's anger.

Producers had asked Davidson and Pinkett Smith to perform the scene prematurely before they had a chance to rehearse it thoroughly. Initially hesitant, Davidson agreed under the assurance that Pinkett Smith was comfortable with it. “When emotions is high, common sense is at an all-time low,” Davidson added.

Earlier this week, Jada Pinkett Smith stunned the public by disclosing that she and Will Smith had been separated since 2016, despite last year’s scandal. The actress explained that their appearance at the Oscars was solely as a family unit.
