While chatting with the comedian on his new talk show Hart to Heart, Saweetie opened up about getting closer to her parents this year.
“We just got close; I would say last year,” Saweetie shared with Hart when asked if her parents play a role in bringing her peace and comfort.
The multi-hyphenate star, who says she took the time during quarantine to learn how to meditate, went on to explain that her parents worked “a lot” during her childhood.
She continued, “Well, growing up, they would work a lot. I was always being babysat by the people, meaning people in my family. And then the opportunity, when it presented itself, I went away to college, went to San Diego State, then to USC. I’ve been independent for a really long time. I was a kid, like, in third or fourth grade, I had a key to my house, and I would walk home, and I would do my homework. I would clean the dishes. I would make my food. I’ve been independent for a really long time.”
The 29-year-old later expressed that her experience left her feeling “sad” and “yearning" for more time with her parents.
Thankfully Saweetie says her relationship with her parents has strengthened in her adult years thanks to having honest conversations. “They apologized for my childhood," she explained. “It meant a lot to me.”
