2022 NAACP Image Awards: 5 Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Albums That Easily Made Their Way Onto Our Playlists

These soundtracks were nothing short of amazing.

There are a few things a film needs in order to be a hit—a great storyline, a batch of talented actors, and, of course, a good soundtrack to along with. The five films listed below had fans talking about their music just as much as their plot earning them nominations at the 53rd Annual NAACP Image Award.

Ahead of this year’s ceremony, where we’re set to honor outstanding performances in film, television, theater, music, and literature, take a look at five outstanding soundtrack/ compilation albums that easily made their way onto our playlists.

  • Coming 2 America (Amazon Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

    The soundtrack to the highly anticipated sequel of the cult classic comedy Coming to America is 12-track thirty-five-minute long project which features several stand-out tracks, including “Get Off” by Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Fowler, and Brandon Rogers, as well as “I’m a King” by Bobby Sessions and Houston native Megan Thee Stallion.

  • Judas and the Black Messiah (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

    The soundtrack for the biographical drama about the murder of Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, stands just as strong as its award-winning feature film. Both informative and inspiring, the collections of song guests feature several big names in the hip-hop industry, including Rakim, A$AP Rocky, Black Thought, G Herbo, Lil Durk, H.E.R., and more.

  • Respect (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

    Jennifer Hudson gives an incredible performance of some of the most timeless hits by the iconic soul singer Aretha Franklin–it’s no surprise the legend herself handpicked the actress.

    The Netflix Black Western from the mind of Jeymes Samuel features 14-tracks of original songs with an array of musicians, including CeeLo Green, Seal, and Koffee, with a stand-out track of the same name with various genres such as hip hop, reggae, and r&b.

  • The United States vs. Billie Holiday (Music from the Motion Picture)

    In an interview with Apple Music actress Andra Day, who portrays the legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday in the award-winning motion picture, she said that she initially said no to the role that will forever change the trajectory of her life. Day takes center stage in this 13-track project, delivering one powerful performance after the next.
