Last week on House of Payne, we spent much of our time with Jasmine, watching her figure out whether she would drop out of college to pursue influencing full-time. This week, we have Curtis taking on a protective role in his community. The episode begins with Glo stopping by and asking Ella for a girls’ night out. She has had a rough time at work with break-ins increasing, and she's stressed. She suggests the neighborhood get a neighborhood watch captain, which interests Curtis. Glo clarifies that she wasn’t talking about him and didn’t think he could do it anyway, but you know they get on each other’s nerves. Glo’s doubt only fueled Curtis’ endeavor to get the community to believe in him. People in the neighborhood would have to vote for him, so it’s on. He even asks his friend Floyd if he’d like to be co-captain of the neighborhood watch, and Floyd agrees. But hold that thought.
The side plot is that Jasmine gets on CJ and Malik about their eating habits. She finds them eating popcorn, pizza, and wings while watching the game and gives them a lecture. They’re not feeling her approach, and CJ even says he doesn’t eat unhealthy food daily. Jasmine backs off, but she’s cooking up a plan.
Back to Curtis. Curtis’ plan to get the neighborhood to believe in him as neighborhood patrol captain works. He called around and put whistles in peoples’ mailboxes, which was enough to win them over. Floyd was also selected as co-captain.
Later on, we find out that Jasmine swapped the typical food that CJ and Malik like to air-fried chicken wings and cauliflower crust pizza instead for their next game time, and they didn’t even know it. Once they realized they were tricked, they were willing to hear Jasmine out a bit more. Her point this entire time was that you can still eat the food you like with some mindful changes.
Finally, the episode ends with Curtis living up to his new title. Curtis stopped a robbery while Ella and Glo were out on the town. When the latter two returned, they saw the police dispersing and got an earful of Curtis’ heroics. Curtis now thinks he’s Batman, and even more special for him is that the media is starting to call him for interviews. Floyd will be his publicist, and we’ll see how this goes.
