Jay Z Makes a Generous Contribution to Black Lives Matter

Jay Z's word is bond as he follows through with hefty donation promise.

Back in October, Jay Z’s Barclays Center hosted a benefit concert like no other. With performers such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Usher and Damian Marley joining Hov himself. The concert served a dual purpose, celebrating one million subscribers to streaming service Tidal and raising money for a variety of social justice organizations.

Today (Feb. 8), Okayplayer reports that Jay Z’s check has cleared. The $1.5 million contribution has been divided amongst a variety of organizations, both global and local, that are all in line with the Black Lives Matter movement and related social justice focuses.

While Jay often makes his moves in silence, we would love to hear him speak out more on these issues and his involvement. That being said, it's commendable he’s letting his actions do the majority of the talking for now.

Hopefully 2016 will see more charitable events being hosted at Barclays, and with his wife's #BEYGood Foundation branching out to include fundraising for the Flint water crisis in conjunction with her freshly announced world tour, it’s both clear and commendable that the couple is using their influential powers for the greater good. The Knowles-Carter family don't play.

Here is the complete list of the organizations that will benefit from the money raised: Opportunity Agenda, Hands Up United, Sankofa.Org, Community Coalition, Dream Defenders, Black Youth Project, Baltimore Justice Fund, Empowerment Development Corporation, Million Hoodies, NY Justice League, Ohio Students Association/Organizing Collaborative, the Trayvon Martin Foundation, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Ours Sons and Daughters Foundation and the Oscar Grant Foundation.
