Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty in London Nightclub Assault Case While Continuing World Tour
Chris Brown is once again facing legal drama across the pond — this time for a violent nightclub altercation that landed him in a London courtroom.
On June 20, the Grammy-winning R&B artist appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London and pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. The case stems from a 2023 incident in which Brown allegedly launched an unprovoked bottle attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape nightclub in the upscale Mayfair district. The assault, which prosecutors say was caught on surveillance video, reportedly escalated with punches and kicks.
Brown’s co-defendant, fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu — also known as Hoody Baby — also pleaded not guilty. Both men face an additional charge of causing actual bodily harm, and Brown is facing a separate count of possessing an offensive weapon: the bottle allegedly used in the attack, according to CBS News.
According to testimony presented in court, Diaw was struck multiple times with the bottle while standing at the bar, before the beating continued in another section of the club. Prosecutors claim the incident was witnessed by several people and recorded on CCTV.
Brown was arrested at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on May 15 of this year and was held briefly at HMP Forest Bank in Salford before being released on a staggering £5 million bail — roughly $6.75 million — allowing him to continue his “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour. He was seen performing in Cardiff, Wales, just hours before his court appearance. The bail agreement also included a financial guarantee to ensure his return for future hearings, with a trial date set for October 2026.
