Nicki Minaj Has Officially Married Boyfriend Kenneth Petty

Here's everything she's shared about the newlyweds, the nuptials, and her retirement.

Congratulations are pouring in for Nicki Minaj after the Queens rapper dropped the major bombshell that she is now officially married to her boyfriend, Kenneth Petty. Nicki announced the exciting news late last night (Oct. 21) on Instagram, where she shared a video with her 106 million followers.

  • “Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19," Nicki captioned the post as the video panned over white coffee mugs with “Mr.” and Mrs.” scrawled in cursive black font next to matching bride and groom baseball caps on a glittery countertop. The announcement comes two months after Nicki revealed on Queen Radio that she had filed for her marriage license and would be married in about “80 days.”

  • Prior to the post, the Queens rap legend spoke with The Shade Room about whether she’ll be making a trip down the aisle soon as well as details on her new Fendi collection. While Nicki said she wasn't sure if she’d go through with the traditional ceremonial nuptials (although she would like a big “fairytale wedding"), the rap megastar also seized the moment to clear up whether she’s officially put the mic down.

Last month, Nicki quickly fired off a now-deleted tweet that caused a ruckus in hip-hop circles after she announced that she'd be retiring from music.

  • “When I posted that retirement tweet, I knew that I still had music that I already had recorded that was still gonna come out, so the retirement was kinda talking about [whether] I wanna go back and record my fifth album,” she clarified. “I always get asked to do features, and I like features. So it was really about my fifth album.”

She continued: “I didn’t know my fans were going to act like that with the tweet, and it hurt my feelings because I felt like the way I did it was, like, insensitive to my fans. I didn’t know it was going to be that big of a deal. So that’s why I deleted it.”

  • As for whether she’s truly finished with rap, Nicki steered clear of confirming whether or not she’s actually backing away from music as the Barbz feared. In another portion of the interview, Nicki said who she’d like to collaborate with an upcoming rapper “if” she was to release another album.

“I just recently collaborated with DaBaby [and] Gunna. So if there is an album, there’s going to be way more than that,” she shared. “It was also dope working with Megan [Thee Stallion] as well. If there is an album, there would be other surprises.”
