WATCH: Jimmie Allen And Monica Perform At The 2022 CMT Awards With ‘Pray’

The genre-crossing performance was Monica’s first debut on the CMT Awards stage.

With CBS News’ Gayle King introducing the entertainers, the country artist and sultry R&B singer took the stage for the first-ever live performance of “Pray” with country group Little Big Town.

The performance marked Monica’s debut on the CMT Awards stage.

As the group delivered angelic notes and full-bodied harmonies, the performers were dressed in all-white on the stage that was filled with clouds and smoke. The powerful ballad is said to be genre-crossing and adds to the ever-growing unity and inclusion within the country music industry.

“Pray” is featured in Allen’s Bettie James Gold Edition industry.

“This song is powerful because to me, it wasn’t a religious song. I’m not really a religious guy,” the 36-year-old shared with Billboard at the time of the album’s release.

Adding: “I’m spiritual, but I’m not religious. When I heard it, it was just pushing the idea that at some point in everyone’s life, we all go through something that causes us to stop and realize that we need a higher power to help us get through the situation we’re in.”
