Beyonce's Star-Studded Coachella Set Was Everything And Officially Broke Social Media

She brought out Solange, Jay-Z, and even reunited Destiny's Child during the two-hour long set.

Beyonce absolutely killed it last night/this morning (April 15) during her Coachella set and the Internet is still abuzz from what we witnessed.

  • The superstar singer/songwriter had to cancel her set during last year’s Coachella due to being pregnant with twins, Sir and Rumi, so she decided to make up for it this year and all we can say is: job well done.

The performance led way to the debut of her own band, which featured dozens of drummers, brass players, violinists and perhaps most impressive, male and female dancers. It was an HBCU-dedicated deluge and assumed most of her set, including a lot of the beginning.

  • Prior to hitting the stage, Beyonce promised fans that her Coachella set would be one for the ages. “I am so excited to see the BeyHive tonight at Coachella,” she wrote in a Facebook post hours before she took the stage. "We have been working hard and have a special show planned for you so please be safe and stay hydrated. We need your energy! There will be an hour intermission before my performance, so mark your spot, charge your phones, grab your drinks. Can't wait to see y'all at 11:05pm!"

She didn’t mention it, but rumors swelled about there being multiple people joining her on stage, most of whom ended up accompanying her at different points during her set. Throughout her two-hour long performance, Bey had the Hive rocking to a stunning visual display that involved her band and obviously hundreds of hours of preparation. She also trotted out a mix of older and newer material really encompassing the amount of hits she has and the realization of how long she’s been able to dominate the charts.

As for those guests, it was mostly a family affair. She brought out Solange for a dancing duet over the extended version of “Get Me Bodied.”

  • Husband Jay-Z appeared on-stage for “Déjá Vu,” and for perhaps the first time in his career, he looked a little rusty. We don’t blame him though, if any of us walked out on stage and saw Beyonce in that setting we’d definitely stumble through our lines as well.

  • Perhaps the climax of the night was when the rumors of a Destiny’s Child reunion were confirmed on-stage. Toward the latter part of her set, Beyonce brought out Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for renditions of “Say My Name,” “Soldier” and “Lose My Breath” while donning matching black and bronze ensembles.

Coachella is in its 19th year of being a festival and Beyonce became the first Black woman to headline it. She made not of that prior to bring out the rest of DC. “Coachella, thanks for allowing me to be the first black woman to headline,” she said. “Ain’t that 'bout a bitch?”

  • Beyonce’s set a Coachella was her first at a festival since 2016. For her, it was important to return on a strong note, something she noted during her time on stage. “This is a very important performance for me,” she told the crowd between performing “Sorry” and “Bow Down/I Been On.” “I’m happy to be back home on the stage tonight.”

She really set the standard for headlining Coachella performances from here on out and didn’t hold back any Black pride. Whether it was her perfectly choreographing to the beat of “Partition” or soaring over the crowd for “Drunk in Love,” she proves that she’s only getting better with age.

Coming up, Bey will hit the road with Hov for their On The Run 2 Tour, which kicks off in Europe in June and will touch down in the U.S. in July.
