LAPD Captain Shuts Down Rumors About How Celeste Rivas Hernandez Was Discovered in d4vd’s Tesla
The case surrounding the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez has taken another turn as the Los Angeles Police Department steps in to shut down the rumors that have been all over social media. Captain Scot Williams, who leads the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division, made it clear that the online stories about the condition of her body are simply not true.
Williams told PEOPLE that Hernandez was not frozen and was not decapitated, despite claims from local outlets and online chatter.
“Celeste’s body was not frozen,” he said. “She was not decapitated. The whole frozen thing doesn’t even make sense. Her body was in the car for weeks.”
Hernandez was found inside the trunk of a Tesla in the Hollywood Hills on September 8, one day after her fifteenth birthday. The car belonged to musician d4vd, born David Anthony Burke, who was on tour when her body was discovered. Investigators believe her remains had been inside the vehicle for an extended period during peak summer heat. Williams added that even if someone attempted to freeze her beforehand, “five or more weeks in the trunk of a car in sweltering heat” would not result in a partially frozen body.
The teen was first reported missing from her home in Lake Elsinore on April 5, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Months later, her body was located in the impounded Tesla. Last week, a police source confirmed that d4vd is a suspect in the case and claimed he has “not been cooperative” during the investigation. The singer’s representatives previously told NBC Los Angeles that he is “fully cooperating,” though the LAPD has not confirmed that. No charges have been filed.
Detectives served a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills home connected to the singer in September as part of the ongoing investigation. The cause and manner of Hernandez’s death remain unknown. On November 24, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner placed a security hold on her case, blocking the release of any details until the court order is lifted.
The department acknowledged the public interest and said information will be released when legally allowed. Celeste’s family and community continue to wait for answers as investigators work to piece together what happened.
