Being a successful public figure usually means people emerging from the shadows with details about your "shady past." Being that he's one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, it's no surprise that Tyler Perry has found himself the subject of a book called Never Would Have Made It: The Rise of Tyler Perry.
Written by Melvin Childs, who describes himself as a radio executive, the book alleges that Perry took "risky deals with drug dealers, couriers carrying large bags of cash across the country; backstabbing and double-dealing with corrupt promoters," to help launch his career.
Childs, who claims to have an eye for writing talent, says that he helped discover a then-unknown Perry by investing in his production of I Know I've Been Changed at Atlanta's House of Blues ... a turning point in the star's career, which lead to a successful national tour. Childs says he also supported the then-struggling star by providing for Perry's basic living expenses at that time.
