WATCH: Mary J. Blige In New ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Midseason Premiere Clip

The hit series returns on Dec. 6 on Starz.

Mary J. Blige is showing that she is running things, in the new clip for the midseason premiere of Power Book II: Ghost. 

In an exclusive clip obtained by Entertainment Weekly, drug queenpin Monet Tejada played by Blige, is showing that she ultimately has the power when it comes to her children, Diana Tejana (LaToya Tonodeo), Cane Tejada (Woody McClain) and Dru Tejada (Lovell Adams-Gray).

Writer and producer of the series, Courtney Kemp, previously told EW that she wanted fans of the show to see Mary how she sees her -- as a survivor.

“Monet is a woman who has survived a lot — her husband is inside and she has inherited his business and he’s still in control, she’s trying to navigate that,” Kemp says.  “She’s also trying to navigate having sons who are men and a daughter who is becoming a woman and trying to teach this girl how to become a woman in the world as you see it. She is based on a whole bunch of women who I’ve read about or we know about, women who are in the life and become hardened by it, toughened by it.” 

As for what’s to come in the last half of the season, Kemp says that the storyline is about to get “intense.” 

“All of the relationships get much more complicated," she continues. "Tariq has to make some decisions, some familiar faces from Power show back up.

Power Book II: Ghost returns Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Starz.
