Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan to Re-Team for Rocky Spinoff

Will collaborate with Stallone on Creed.

Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan have become the toast of Hollywood since the premiere of their acclaimed film, and now it looks like they're not wasting any time before their next collaboration.
The pair will partner with legendary action hero Sylvester Stallone for a spinoff of Stallone's Rocky franchise, Deadline.com confirms. MGM is in early talks with Jordan to play the grandson of Apollo Creed in Creed, with Coogler set to direct. Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky Balboa, a retired fighter-turned-trainer.

Jordan will play the wealthy grandson of Apollo Creed (played in the early movies by Carl Weathers), a young man who doesn't have to fight to make a living but discovers a natural talent for boxing. Creed’s grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return.
The concept was dreamed up by Coogler himself, who intends for the film to be his follow-up to Fruitvale Station. He pitched the idea first to Stallone, who loved it, and they jointly got MGM on board.
Coogler has become a Hollywood wonder-kind since the critical and box-office success of Fruitvale Station, produced by the Weinstien Company in association with BET Films. Fruitvale Station is in theaters now.
