'The Oval': More Confusion Unfolds in the Aftermath of the Shootout
“The Oval” is back, and tensions are at an all-time high. Last season ended, quite literally, with a bang: Hunter ordered his agents to take out his adversaries, including his wife, Victoria, Donald, Eli, and others. This season picks up in the aftermath of that chaotic skirmish. Surprisingly, only a few agents were injured, and no one died. This shocking act of violence also brought Hunter and Jason, the first son, closer together, as Jason seems impressed with his father’s audacity to make such a ruthless call.
Later, Jason confides in his father that he has hidden “some things” in the White House’s underground tunnels. While he doesn’t specify what those “things” are, knowing Jason’s psychopathic tendencies, it’s safe to assume they could be bodies. Hunter agrees to help him clear out the tunnels, seeing their potential utility for future schemes.
Meanwhile, Eli is too rattled to make decisive calls, leaving Donald to take charge. Donald, ever the opportunist, tells everyone to return to their offices and act normal, emphasizing his desire to keep the incident out of the press.
Fast forward to Victoria and Donald’s private meeting, where they express disappointment in Eli’s inability to take control during the crisis. His frozen reaction, in their eyes, is far from presidential. Their immediate concern, however, is how to deal with Hunter.
In another subplot, Dale seeks refuge at Nancy’s house, explaining that he doesn’t feel safe staying with Allen due to Kyle’s obsessive and jealous behavior. Nancy offers Dale Barry’s old room, as Barry is no longer alive.
The episode culminates with Bobby, Max, Priscilla, Simone, Sam, Victoria, and Eli gathering to discuss the aftermath of the shootout. Victoria astutely points out that the agents on both sides may have been bluffing, arguing that if they truly intended to kill, it would have already been done. Max adds that assassinating a president during such chaos wouldn’t serve the agents’ interests, which likely explains why most people walked away unscathed.
However, the group struggles to stay focused, as petty arguments and personal dramas repeatedly derail the conversation. Sam inadvertently drops a bombshell, revealing that Simone has been sleeping with Bobby, leaving Eli visibly upset. The look of bewilderment on Eli’s face is priceless—especially considering his own questionable actions—but that’s a mess we’ll dive into next week.
