Why Aoki Lee Simmons Chose Bali Over The United States
Model and public figure Aoki Lee Simmons is living in Bali and recently shared on social media that she doesn’t plan to move back to the U.S. anytime soon.
Reportedly, Simmons has been embracing life overseas as she continues modeling and sharing glimpses of daily life on social platforms. She recently captioned an Instagram story, “Move back to the US this. Move back to the US that. I get to wear a backless sundress every single day & I never have to wear shoes, the answer is no."
Aoki's father, Russell Simmons, has also chosen to live in Bali since 2018, and a move that he says was by choice after the hip hop mogul invested in wellness projects there and promoted a vegetarian/health-and-wellness lifestyle tied to those initiatives. At the same time, his relocation was amid multiple sexual-misconduct allegations and related lawsuits. Critics and some accusers have questioned the timing of his move, but Simmons disputes the claim that he left as a way of fleeing from the accusations.
Sources say Aoki is enjoying a more private life outside the U.S., citing the slower pace and creative freedom she’s found in Bali. Younger creatives and public figures are increasingly choosing alternate hubs — from Southeast Asia to Europe — to work, recharge, and build their personal brands away from U.S. pressures.
For Aoki specifically, the move is a personal decision rather than a career retreat as she remains visible online while exploring life overseas.
