Meditation is a Major Key
Big Sean likes to meditate before he records his music. In a video with MTV News, he showed us how he does it!
Big Sean's Grandmother
Big Sean's late grandmother had a powerful effect on him and his music. You may have heard his thoughtful songs about her, but she wasn't just an amazing grandmother to him, she was also a hero. Big Sean's grandmother, Mildred V. Leonard, was one of the first Black female captains in WWII. Her strength shined through then and still does through his music.

Humble Beginnings
Right now, Big Sean uses his voice to rap lyrics to hit songs. Before that, Big Sean was using his voice for other jobs. His job before hitting fame was as a telemarketer. In an interview, he stated that he was only making $100 a week before meeting Kanye West and signing to G.O.O.D. Music.
Mr. Kanye West
A chance encounter with Kanye West helped set off Big Sean's career. Sean first met West at a local radio station when he was in town. Though West initially turned down Sean's request to rap for him, Sean persisted and his delivery blew West away. He then decided to sign Sean on the spot. The rest is history!
