Not only is Big Sean an amazing rap artist, he is also book smart. He completed high school with a 3.7 GPA. If it were not for his rap career, Big Sean stated, he would have attended Michigan State and majored in advertising.

The Sean Anderson Foundation is meant to empower the youth. The foundation was created by Big Sean to assist Detroit youth in education, health, well-being and safety. The foundation helps many outside programs and engages in generous donations to educational programs.

  3. Key To The City

Big Sean has not only put on for his city, but he also has given back to his city. His monumental work in the community earned him the key to the city! On April 1, Mayor Mike Duggan surprised Big Sean with the key to the city at his Sean Anderson Foundation Mogul Prep Event. Big Sean is one of three recipients to receive this honor! The first two were Berry Gordy and Stevie Wonder.

No, Big Sean is not signed to Motown, but he is affiliated with the Motown Museum National Legacy Council. Sean accepted the invitation to be a key player in assisting the expansion around the Motown Museum. Other members of this council include Stevie Wonder, Reverend Jesse Jackson and Smokey Robinson, to name a few.

  6. Meditation is a Major Key

Big Sean likes to meditate before he records his music. In a video with MTV News, he showed us how he does it!

  7. Big Sean's Grandmother

Big Sean's late grandmother had a powerful effect on him and his music. You may have heard his thoughtful songs about her, but she wasn't just an amazing grandmother to him, she was also a hero. Big Sean's grandmother, Mildred V. Leonard, was one of the first Black female captains in WWII. Her strength shined through then and still does through his music.

Right now, Big Sean uses his voice to rap lyrics to hit songs. Before that, Big Sean was using his voice for other jobs. His job before hitting fame was as a telemarketer. In an interview, he stated that he was only making $100 a week before meeting Kanye West and signing to G.O.O.D. Music.

A chance encounter with Kanye West helped set off Big Sean's career. Sean first met West at a local radio station when he was in town. Though West initially turned down Sean's request to rap for him, Sean persisted and his delivery blew West away. He then decided to sign Sean on the spot. The rest is history!
