Victoria's Secret Angel Jasmine Tookes worked the runway in Shanghai for the annual VS fashion show and looked absolutely amazing in the new Victoria's Secret x Balmain collab. Last year, the model was chosen as the third woman of color to wear the $3 million dollar blinged-out fantasy bra joining past VS Angel icons Selita Ebanks and Tyra Banks. 

Jasmine tells BET.com, “I think I bring Black girl magic to the show by just being really strong, independent and fierce on the runway. Tyra Banks was my idol when I always wanted to do Victoria's Secret it was all about her." She channels her inner Tyra when she takes on the runway because she believes she represents Black girl magic. 

Growing up in this industry, the 26-year-old has luckily never endured any problems with race. She says, "everyone has been very welcoming and accepting. There has been a lot of change, which I really admire about the industry.”

When she began her modeling career, there were only a few Black models on the runway, and now you see them as the majority, embracing their natural hair and Blackness. She believes all models, "should be able to show their true self. If I had a shaved head or an afro or whichever hair you have, red hair, green hair, you should be able to do whatever you like.”

The supermodel also let us in on her secrets of how she maintains her snatched figure to strut on the runway. Jasmine tells BET.com, “Thank God I train throughout the year, but definitely a month before the show I’ll start amping up my workouts, eating a little more healthy, a lot of grilled chicken, veggies and protein." She also, "does lot of weight training to really make my legs and back strong to carry the heavy wings because they are pretty heavy [30 pounds] when you’re walking down the runway they pull you.”

When Jasmine finally achieved Angel status she says it meant everything to her because it was such a lifelong dream. "A lot of girls grew up and said they wanted to be doctors or veterinarians or something and I just strictly wanted to do Victoria's Secret. It’s really exciting and I love working for a brand that represents such strong women.”

She wants young Black girls who are pursuing modeling to know that they should, “never give up and to really work for your position, because nothing happens overnight."
