Ex–Gas Station Clerk Gets 20–50 Years for 2023 Beef Jerky–Related Killing
A gas station clerk was sentenced to decades in jail for shooting a patron in the head who stole a beef jerky snack, according to reports.
The incident occurred in 2023 at an ExxonMobil gas station located on Vernor Highway in Detroit.
Authorities said that Moad Mohamed Al-Gaham, a gas station clerk, got into an altercation with Anthony McNary over the food item. Before the clerk confronted McNary, he is said to have put the object in his pocket.
According to police, Al-Gaham searched McNary's pockets, pulled out the beef jerky, and put it back on the shelf. After the fight, McNary tried to pay for the beef jerky, but Al-Gaham wouldn't take his money and had him leave the store.
Al-Gaham then locked the door by hand, making it impossible for McNary to get back in.
The video from the surveillance camera shows McNary standing outside the gas station and approaching the door several times. At one point, the video shows Al-Gaham fatally shooting McNary in the head through the window.
The police reported that the gun he used was unregistered.
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, Fieger Law sent out the following statement on Anthony McNary's family:
“The actions of Mr. Al-Gaham are horrific, and the inactions of ExxonMobil leading up to this incident demonstrate a complete disregard for the safety of our community,” James Harrington, Fieger Law Managing Partner. ”We are eager to continue the pursuit of justice for Anthony. Fieger Law has filed a $100 Million lawsuit against ExxonMobil on behalf of the McNary family and we at Fieger Law will not stop in the pursuit of justice for Anthony McNary until justice is delivered.”
