Drake Cuts J. Cole's Autism Lyric From "Jodeci Freestyle"
Drake has followed up J. Cole's apology to the autistic community with a heartfelt response of his own.
"I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused," Drizzy said in a statement posted on his OVO blog Monday night (July 22), noting Cole's apology was "beautiful and moving."
Cole had recently written a letter adressed to advocacy organization Autism Speaks regarding his "incredibly offensive" lyric on Drake's "Jodeci Freestlyle," one of four new tracks the 26-year-old released in one day. Cole rapped, "I'm an artist, you n----s is autistic, retarded."
The Anti Bullying Alliance hit back with a Change.org petition that amassed more than 4,500 signatures.
In addition to apologizing, Drake went a step further and pulled the rhyme all together. "This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song.”
