Posted March 12, 2008 -- A 21-year-old man has now been charged in the death of UNC Chapel Hill student Eve Carson, and police say they're searching for a second suspect.

Demario James Atwater of Durham stood before a judge in ankle shackles Wednesday afternoon and was ordered held without bond at his initial court appearance. When he was asked if he understood the charged against him, he whispered "yes."  His next court date is set for March 24.

Atwater was arrested overnight during a raid on a house in Durham.

Authorities says they are looking for 17-year-old Lawrence Alvin Lovett Jr., who is considered a second suspect in Carson's murder.

Carson, 22, of Athens, Ga., was found shot to death a week ago in a neighborhood not far from the campus.
