Saul Williams to Star in Tupac-Inspired Broadway Musical

Holla If Ya Hear Me will be based on Tupac's lyrics.

It's a big year for fans of Tupac Shakur. The late rapper will not only be honored with a biopic this year, but will be getting the Broadway treatment as well. A musical inspired by Pac's lyrics will begin previews on May 29, with Saul Williams playing the leading role.
The musical, called Holla If Ya hear Me, won't be a biopic of Tupac, but rather an original story based on the late rapper's lyrics. The production will be directed by Broadway veteran Kenny Leon.
"The world inside Tupac Shakur's music and lyrics blazes to life in a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope," reads the official synopsis. "Inner city lives struggle for peace against the daily challenges they face in this entertaining original musical. Through the poetry of one of the 20th century's most influential and culturally prominent voices, we are given a window into realities of the streets still relevant today."
Tupac will also be the subject of an upcoming biopic film directed by John Singleton.
Holla If Ya Hear Me comes to the Palace Theater in New York City starting May 29.
